Marie Fitchet understands what hospitality is all about – after all she learned it at her mother's knee. Merwede Guest House and B&B was started in 1959 by Marie's parents and the tradition continues. This family business has been in operation for 48 years, first as a legendary boarding house where thousands of happy guests spent a night or stayed for a week or a month and return every year.

Situated in the centre of the horseshoe, this establishment, a Georgian-style building (part of Graaff-Reinet's historical heritage) with an elegant facade decorated with “broekielys” and warm interior dotted with many antiques, welcomes each guest with homey warmth and comfort.
