![]() The Thatches is a self catering resort consisting of nine two bedroom cottages each with a full bathroom, open plan kitchenette, dining-room and lounge, private braai facility and furnished patio. These buildings are all in a horseshoe – the horseshoe is closed off by the restaurant building, and right in the middle is a fenced swimming pool and lapa and communal braai facilities. A Laundromat and a reception/admin office round off the on site facilities. (Rod & Annatjie designed the complex after visiting many resorts and questioning friends to find out what they felt was missing in the self-catering resorts which they had stayed in). In fact, we maintain an open door policy with regard to suggestions and criticisms.
Each cabana is fully equipped for six people – all you have to bring with is your towels. The units are serviced daily between 8am and 3pm. at no extra charge. Baby-sitting can be arranged at an extra charge.
There is much to do in Kei Mouth. If you want to give Mommy a break from cooking (apart from getting Dad to do the job), there is an excellent restaurant on site, and I am sure that you will agree that Reg's meals are to die for. There are also other eateries to choose from in the town, (If you are a better cook there are two supermarkets to cater to your needs).
Kei Mouth is renowned for its Rock, Surf, River and Deep Sea Fishing, and for the fly fishermen, the Centenary dam teems with bass and fresh water mullet. The nearby Morgan's Bay River offers tranquil salt water fly fishing opportunities.
River cruises (day excursions & booze cruises) are on offer up to 20 persons at a time.
The Kei Mouth Country Club offers an excellent 9-hole golf course, squash courts, bowling greens (13 rinks), Snooker table (full size), braai facilities and an eatery.
And there's more! - the pontoon on the Kei River which runs, on demand, from daybreak to sunset, allows you to get even further away from the madding crowd - you can visit our sister hotel on the "Old Transkei Wildcoast" where the people and the facilities are fewer, but the cuisine is exquisite and enjoy a pub-lunch in the pub "right on the beach" at SeaGulls - a mere seventeen kilometres away! For those who prefer to walk along the beach: seven kilometres.
